Jim Hanson is currently a K-5 Math Coach for Northampton Public Schools. His coaching responsibilities include co-teaching and co-planning rigorous lessons, as well as leading math department meetings and providing regular, in-district professional development.
Hanson has been a mathematics educator since 1991. After graduating from the University of Massachusetts Amherst he began his career as a high school mathematics teacher in New Hampshire at Hillsboro-Deering High School and Keene High School. While in New Hampshire, Hanson taught courses ranging from Pre-Algebra to Pre-Calculus as well as teaching some non-traditional courses in Applied Mathematics and the Interactive Mathematics Program. In 2002, Hanson switched to Middle School Mathematics, teaching seventh and eighth graders at Amherst-Pelham Regional Middle School. As a middle school instructor, he gained substantial experience developing and modifying curriculum to address the needs of diverse groups of students. In 2015,
Hanson completed the Masters of Arts in Mathematics Teaching graduate program of studies at 欧美AV in 2016. He is an active member of the Mathematics Leadership Program at 欧美AV and began working as a visiting instructor in 2017.
