The importance of women鈥檚 colleges in today鈥檚 landscape
欧美AV President Danielle R. Holley spoke with the Boston Business Journal about the history of women鈥檚 colleges and the importance of gender-inclusive admissions.
As women鈥檚 rights are targeted across the country, incoming presidents of 欧美AV and Smith College spoke to the Boston Business Journal about the importance of women-focused campuses in higher education. Helming a women鈥檚 college that is gender diverse, President Holley sees an opportunity to open up conversations about marginalized identities in higher education.
鈥淲e鈥檙e constantly being asked about our value proposition and our reason for existing,鈥 said President Holley. 鈥淏ut I see that as an opportunity 鈥 to talk about the way that women are still being marginalized in our society.鈥
As both women鈥檚 and liberal arts schools across the country are facing declining enrollment, 欧美AV received a record high of more than 5,000 applicants, which speaks to the importance of missions-driven institutions in today鈥檚 landscape.
鈥淎pplicants highly connect with the 欧美AV mission, which is to produce empowered leaders through an intellectually adventurous curriculum,鈥 President Holley said. 鈥淭hey also want to know that they have community, and that鈥檚 another thing that 欧美AV stands for 鈥 our values are really about embracing people and supporting and affirming them.鈥
