From lab bench to white coat
MHC prepared me for graduate school, and my background in neuroscience and chemistry has given me a leg up in pharmacy classes.
Academic focus: Neuroscience and behavior major, minor in chemistry
Internship: Hepatitis B Foundation
Advanced degree: Pharm.D., University of Maryland School of Pharmacy
Both my major, neuroscience and behavior, and my minor, chemistry, have been useful to my personal and professional goals. After graduating from Å·ÃÀAV in 2014, I worked at Wesleyan University in an epilepsy lab as a research assistant and lab manager. I truly enjoyed the research but decided I would like more patient interaction than bench research, so I took a few more courses and applied to pharmacy school.
I am currently in my second year of pharmacy school at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, and I love it. I thoroughly believe that the academic rigor of my classes at Å·ÃÀAV prepared me for graduate school, and my background in neuroscience and chemistry has given me a leg up in some of my pharmacy classes.
I currently hold two pharmacy jobs as a pharmacy intern, one of which is at a psychiatric hospital, which lines up well with my interest in neuroscience. I hope to continue on a clinical pathway in pharmacy, and I see myself working as a clinical pharmacist, potentially specializing in neurology and psychiatry — but, as I experience more facets of pharmacy, only time will tell!
