M.A.T. Professor Kathryn Accurso wins award

Kathryn Accurso won the American Education Research Association Vocabulary SIG Student Research Paper of the Year Award for her paper.

Teacher Education and School Improvement (TESI) doctoral candidate Kathryn Accurso won the American Education Research Association Vocabulary SIG Student Research Paper of the Year Award for her paper titled 鈥淒eveloping Preservice Teachers鈥 Capacity for Giving Feedback on Math Writing With Systemic Functional Linguistics.鈥 The paper, co-authored with professor Meg Gebhard and Stephanie Purington, doctoral student, TESI, demonstrated that as pre-service teachers come to see disciplinary vocabulary as part of a functional meaning-making system, they develop an ability to give more specific and contextualized feedback on student writing. Kathryn presented the paper and received the award at the annual meeting of AERA in New York.
